Sanctuary School Resolution

Education is a Right and an Act of Love

RECITALS

Whereas, Escuela Popular’s mission is to educate to transforms lives;

Whereas, the Founder Maestra Lidia Reguerin dedicated her life to seeking justice and prosperity for immigrant families;

Whereas, Escuela Popular is committed to give each student the opportunity and support to meet his or her highest potential in a safe learning environment regardless of circumstances;

Whereas, Escuela Popular believes that our students’ ability to achieve is negatively impacted by the threat of ICE raids or discriminatory practices that leave students with uncertainty and fear, the school should have in place policies and procedures to protect and care for students facing these situations.

RESOLUTION

Resolved, That the Escuela Popular del Pueblo Board reaffirms the authority to continue to protect the data and identities of any student, family member or school employee who may be adversely affected by any future policies or executive action that results in the collection of any personally identifiable information to the fullest extent of the law;

Resolved, That the Escuela Popular del Pueblo Board reaffirms that any ICE personnel, agents or official Officials intending to enter any Escuela Popular campuses must first notify the Executive Director and the school’s General Counsel, in person, of its intention with adequate notice so that the Executive Director and General Counsel can take steps to provide for the emotional and physical safety of its students and staff;

Resolved further, That the Escuela Popular del Pueblo Board reaffirms its support for every individual embracing education and that Escuela Popular campuses will continue to serve as a sanctuary campus and resource centers for students and families threatened by immigration enforcement or discrimination;

Resolved further, That the Escuela Popular del Pueblo Board and our school leaders remain focused and deeply committed to protect the rights of all student to have access to an education that is transformative.
